Our Verdict
The key tests of any meal are taste and consistency and Freeze Dried meals vary widely in their performance in these areas. We first came across MX3 in 2013 and after trying a few flavours we recognised the quality is ‘up there’ with the best available – so we were keen to stock them. Having tried quite a few since we’ve confirmed our initial impressions, with very few exceptions you won’t be disappointed with an MX3 meal.
As with all freeze dried offerings they are greatly enhanced if you add seasonings and fresh ingredients to them, and when planning a trek I would usually weave freeze dried into the menu with fresher options rather than relying on freeze dried meals alone – that can get a bit dreary.

STAFF’S TASTE TEST – At first I thought it was going to be too runny so I left it 12 minutes (it says 5-10), after this time there was a bit of liquid left on the top but this was easily stirred in and overall, the consistency was quite good. Taste was excellent. All the pieces seemed to have hydrated OK, even the kidney beans, which tasted good too. |
