A light and breathable water-resistant hat, with an integrated bug net.
Outdoor Research says
Insect Shield® bug repellent and UPF 50+ sun protection combined. To heck with pesky, biting, swarming, buzzing bugs. The Bugout Brim Hat is treated with Insect Shield® and helps protect against mosquitos, ticks, and other biting insects. A wide brim, mesh vents and lightweight UPF 50+ fabric keeps you covered and cool on adventures in hot climates.
Our Verdict
A wide-brimmed sun hat, its main selling feature, obviously, is the integrated bug net that stows away in the back of the head space. At first, I thought I would notice it but after a minute or 2 I wasn’t aware it was there.
The net itself is made from OR’s “no see um mesh” it protects your face neck and ears from biting insects, a godsend in the highlands of Scotland in any warm month. The net is perfectly comfortable to wear and has a draw cord to cinch the net close to your neck.
The hat is very comfortable to wear when the net isn’t deployed, and has a UPF of 50+. The hat also has a drawcord so it can be tightened in high wind.
